What UAIE does

UAIE transforms any Microsoft Word document into an accessible learning resource, without changing the writer's words unless the writer asks it to. It reads text aloud with word-by-word highlighting, exports Grade 2 Unified English Braille files for refreshable displays and embossers, rewrites passages at six progressive levels of Bloom's Taxonomy, applies dyslexia-friendly typography, looks up words in the original UAIE Sign™ 72-gesture system, translates documents, and audits the whole document for accessibility gaps, alongside seven further reading and accessibility tools.

Fourteen features. 31 interface languages. Zero telemetry. Zero auto-run. Ctrl+Z reverses any change UAIE makes to your document. Optional AI features (Translate, Plain Language L3–L6, Multiple Intelligences L3–L6) send text to Anthropic only with your own API key; see the Privacy Policy.

The fourteen features

Reading Companion

Text-to-speech with live word highlighting. Pause, resume, stop. Voice, speed, and pitch are user-controlled.

Grade 2 UEB Braille

Converts the selection or the whole document to Unified English Braille, Grade 2, using the common contractions that can be applied reliably by rule, and saves a .brf file (40 cells × 25 lines per page). Check with a qualified transcriber before formal use.

Plain Language

Rewrites passages at six Bloom's Taxonomy levels. L1–L2 run on your device for free. L3–L6 use your own Anthropic API key.

Translate

Translates the selection or the whole document into any of 34 languages with your own Anthropic API key, as one block you can remove again.

Dyslexia Reading Font

Applies a dyslexia-friendly font, spacing, and cream highlight. Ctrl+Z undoes it; Revert restores the original formatting.

UAIE Sign™

An original 72-gesture educational sign vocabulary with fingerspelling for other words. A learning aid, not BSL, ASL, or ISL.

Accessibility Audit

Finds missing alt text, heading-order problems, tables without header rows, unclear hyperlink text, and more, each linked to WCAG 2.2. Exports a text report.

Cognitive Load Indicator

Flesch Reading Ease, sentence length, and complex-word percentage, with a per-section chart for long documents.

Multiple Intelligences

Reframes a passage through Gardner's nine intelligences: free on your device at L1–L2, richer AI versions at L3–L6 with your own key.

Syllable Break View

Shows mid-dots between syllables to help early and struggling readers decode words.

Visual Profiles

High Contrast, Focus, Spacing+, and Large Text profiles for selected paragraphs, with an exact Revert.

Colour-Blindness Preview

Shows how a colour appears with protanopia, deuteranopia, or tritanopia, using the Machado (2009) model.

Reading Ruler

A line-by-line focus strip for readers who lose their place.

Focus Sounds

A 14 Hz binaural tone and pink, brown, and white noise, generated on your device. Background sound, not a medical treatment.

31 interface languages: English, Hindi, Marathi, Tamil, Telugu, Bengali, Kannada, Sanskrit, Spanish, French, Portuguese, German, Italian, Dutch, Polish, Russian, Greek, Romanian, Ukrainian, Turkish, Japanese, Chinese, Arabic, Urdu, Swahili, Afrikaans, Hausa, Yoruba, Igbo, Amharic, and Zulu, with right-to-left layout for Arabic and Urdu.

The UAIE Manifesto

Too many add-ins are a nuisance. UAIE is built on seven non-negotiable principles, encoded into every module:

  1. Opt-in everything. Nothing activates until the user explicitly clicks.
  2. Ctrl+Z respect. Every document change is one undoable operation.
  3. Zero auto-run. The task pane never opens on its own. Word launches clean.
  4. Zero telemetry. No analytics, no pings, no callback URLs, no cookies.
  5. Transparent operations. A status bar always shows what UAIE is doing.
  6. Clean removal. Uninstall leaves the document untouched.
  7. No modals, no interruptions. UAIE never interrupts typing.
